Celebrating two years at AskingCanadians

by Amber Bartlett.

The good old adage, time flies when you’re having fun, has been ringing true at AskingCanadians and Delvinia lately.  A few weeks ago Delvinia turned 15 and we celebrated with an awesome party.  It was a wonderful celebration with tons of great friends, clients and colleagues!

September 6–remember that date people–is my second anniversary with AskingCanadians.  It seems like only yesterday I was one of the NKOTB (New Kids on the Block for those who aren’t familiar with the ‘90s boy band) but now I feel like an old pro.  I’ve learned a lot over the last two years and would like to share a few of my learnings below.

The Hard Facts

  • AskingCanadians is a great place to work.  It’s filled with a bunch of super supportive and talented people who are all working towards the same common goals.
  • A small shop gives you a lot of opportunities to learn and play a vital role in how things are done.  It’s really nice to be able to have a say in panel partners and other key relationships we hold internally. It’s also great to be able to encourage new processes and ideas and watch them flourish.
  • The operations team at AskingCanadians is amazing! The programmers here are top notch. They are fast, thorough and are quick problem-solvers.  On numerous occasions I’ve gone to Ken and Frank with what amounts to a scribble and a few broad ideas for one of my studies and they pull together very cool tools to please both our clients and respondents.  Likewise, the project managers do an exceptional job and are the heart and soul of the team.  If it wasn’t for the great operations team my job would be a lot harder and a lot less enjoyable!

The Fun Facts

  • Angela is an amazing baker (those are her cupcakes in the photo). I’d encourage her to follow her passion but then she won’t work here… so let’s keep that tidbit on the down low.
  • It important to have at least one bottle of liquor on your desk at all times.  You never know when a late afternoon drink on the patio might be required.
  • If you ever need to know a fun fact (or sometimes a not-so-fun fact) about Rush or the Toronto Maple Leafs, call Pat.  When it comes to useless information, he’s your guy!
  • If everyone else in betting on Louisville to win March Madness, stick with the crowd. Your final pick should be the same as the majority. The other games are where you break away from the pack and gain points. Let’s just say every year I bet on Kansas and every year they disappoint me… sound familiar Toronto sports fans?

All in all it’s been a great two years here and I look forward to seeing what the next year holds.  No doubt there will be lots of learnings still to come.

I’m looking forward to the journey and seeing what lies ahead!
